Obsession: Peacock Chair

I have a new obsession... owning a vintage wicker peacock chair. I actually had one of these when I was single and LOVED it. But after we were married, we (my husband, actually) decided we should sell it in a yard sale. Somebody slap me now for letting it go! I so regret this, especially as the 70's continue to be such a strong inspiration for clothing and decor today. I keep seeing these iconic chairs on blogs and trend sites, and now I'm on a quest to find a chair similar to the one I sold. The problem is, you can find them on Ebay but the sellers won't ship them - you have to pick it up. Well, I have found several back east and in Florida, but I have no way to get it home. I am hoping to find one here in the central valley (California). Anyone have one for sale that I don't have to travel too far to retrieve? Here are some peacock chairs from my Pinterest board.

Tie-Dye Balls

Last weekend I was in the mood to be creative. My wooden bowl was calling to me "fill me with something pretty!" So I shredded some extra tie-dyed cotton fabric, tied the ends of each strip to the next, and gathered some of my loose trims and pompoms and rolled them into these sumptuous balls of color. I LOVE them! My next goal is to create them about ten times bigger!

The Art of Tablesetting

Found this at Waiting On Martha and LOVED it! I mean, seriously, for most of us isn't setting the table properly a lost art? I was taught as a child to set a proper table, but it's a struggle for me to pass these time honored traditions of good etiquette onto my reluctant teenage sons. We make a point to eat dinner together as a family almost every night, and my boys can set a basic table. But the table is rarely set with all these extra glasses or utensils unless it is Thanksgiving. A well set table makes the meal seem special; it encourages lingering conversations and honors the guests who sit around it.

May... A month of remembrances for me. Today, May 7, is my dad's birthday, and May 22 is the anniversary of my mom's passing away. They both went home within 6 months of each other in 2006. My sorrow comes from missing them, my joy comes from knowing that I will see them again one day.

Artful Weekend

Happy Monday! Over the weekend my family and I headed over to one of my favorite venues, Kliss Glass Studio. Bob Kliszewski is an expert glass artist and his wife Laurie is a jewelry designer. At this event they had numerous artists sharing the space while food was served and glass making demos were going on. I had to stay on a strict budget, which is hard to do when art is involved, but I walked away with two beautiful ceramic flowers (at the bottom) by artist Mary Camin.

Outside of the studio there were several species of owls and other rescued birds on display by the Fresno Wildlife Rehabilition folks.

Here are the flowers I purchased. They've found a good home.

Multi-faceted Objects

I went to Target this week to pick up some party supplies, and because I am an art supply junkie (my heart races when I am in the presence of something cool and inspiring) I had to check out the pens/markers/crayons just for fun. I found these jewel shaped crayons and mash up writers by Todd Oldham in his Kid Made Modern collection. I had to have them! Luckily, they were cheap. I was so inspired by them that when I got home I displayed them in one of my old wooden bowls that makes everything look even more yummy! I didn't even care if these things colored very well - they do! - because I was so lovin' them. I went back through my pictures in my Geometric Trend file and found more images of inspiration to share. What is it about the shape of a jewel that I find so appealing?
